Hearing The Call…

So, how does it all begin? What is “The Call” or “The Storm” and what was our experience through that process? Let’s go back!

I suppose in hindsight there has always been small signs appearing in our respective lives both before we were together and through the course of our relationship that hinted towards The Morrigan being involved in our lives in some manner. Be it the symbolism of Crows, near and dear to death experiences, hard challenges and personal battles or simply the feeling that there was something more.

While we each had somewhat direct experiences, we would like to take the time on this post to discuss one of the more broader questions less spoken about. “What if you don’t know how to feel?”

Worry not! That singular question left us stranded in the road for quite some time on our journey. Even after doing the historical research, joining into groups and even having a go at Divination, we were still mostly unsure about worshiping much of anything, much less devoting ourselves to the Goddess. Given our personalities being very “headstrong” (for lack of a more crass term) it absolutely took much thought and deep conversation to choose which fork in the road to walk.

What we found ultimately is that no matter the sect, creed, coven or group you find yourself in, they will not (may not) be able to provide you the answers you need to make a conscious decision on something that is so personally internal. What worked for us was mutual understanding between both ourselves and The Goddess. We are not (were not) your typical Pagan individuals that had longstanding traditions or ceremonies to use as reference. Using information we were able to gather via the accredited UCC Celt translation of “Cath Maige Tuired” and also from first and second hand lectures from other devotees regarding the stories of The Morrigan, we were able to establish our own devotion ritual with set timelines and a mutual agreement with the Goddess.

You’ll often hear that working with The Morrigan provides a great challenge and perhaps you’ve also heard that she inherently strikes fear into many on the mere thought of her. While the first statement is certainly fact and we are no strangers to moving from battle to battle, we have found that the opposite of this to be the case. Neither of us were met with night terrors, uncertainty about oneself or a general “Fear of what’s lurking in the dark”. The main deciding factor (one very hard to verbalize) is that it felt right. Odd no? We rely heavily on our ability to see, touch, taste and hear but not nearly enough on the sway of our intuition. This is true of ourselves and most people generally when considering any number of scenarios. Choosing to actively rely on our intuition and one-another’s understanding of a shared energy or feeling actively guided us to making the choices we did more so than any book or personal account. Do not fear the unknown, seek to understand it as deeply as you can know your own self. What is unknown now is simply unseen, you just have to open your eyes.

Great! We’ve deliberated time and time again, we decided, we devoted. What now? Well now it was time to deliver on that promise, that devotion. It took about 5 months for us to do so given finances, work schedules..etc. This was acceptable under our agreement with The Goddess but was nerve wracking none the less as your typical day-to-day life tried to interfere with the objective in front of you. Our act of devotion was complete and this is the point in which we started to experience (borrowing from the science lexicon here) “Phenomenon” that to the closed off or perhaps even naturally skeptical folk would sound like the ramblings of an absolute insane individual.

We realized after completing the devotion that the “link” as it were, had been established. There lay now before us a door, a portal even, that would allow us to communicate on a higher level both with each other, The Morrigan and the energy of everything else beyond our eyes but surrounding us infinitely on a plane we cannot feel. Crows would appear in the most unnatural of scenarios, psychic style abilities and Chakra based energy meditation methods began to yield results collectively for us in a way never before seen.

Going a bit further into the “Coming of Age” so-to-speak, we each began to experience what most would call “Paranormal” activity that seemed tailored to some unique personality trait or quirk we possessed. As if The Morrigan was tugging on your coat saying “I know you can feel this!” at seemingly random points in time. Again, in hindsight some of these times corresponded with the appropriate phases of the moon, world events and even dates/times associated with The Morrigan historically. We’ll dive deeper into our experiences (UPG) later on in further posts….

Of course, by this point we were comfortably numb to the strange happenings. We were unshaken, instead focusing on trying to understand the potential messaging of the symbolism as well as doing our best to examine situations objectively to determine if it was what was seen or experienced could be quantified as “real” to those who are the skeptic sort. Long story short, if something happens once you can chalk it up to coincidence, no doubt. If that same something happens a multitude of times, it warrants investigation.

Ultimately, “Hearing The Call” can mean a lot of different things and it can be manifested or felt in a lot of different ways depending on who YOU are. The Morrigan having her three elements or aspects able to be projected to your life at will stands to reason that the experience you have may be vastly different from our own, none the less it is up to YOU to decide the following questions:

  1. Do I feel as though I am being called?
  2. If I am being called, is working with The Morrigan something I desire?
  3. Am I prepared to answer this call?

I can say as a word of advice for question 1, if you’re randomly searching up an ancient Celtic Goddess that is almost unheard of in the modern day there’s a slight chance you may already feel the call and like us, are following that intuition to see where the path leads.

In closing, it is lost on many people that a key trait of The Morrigan is the concept of “Sovereignty”. What does that mean? It means you should stand on your own, be your own authority and make the decisions in your life that work for you with ties that bind. If you’ve come this far, you’ve already taken the first step. Why let it be the last?

Till next time!
